After their successful production of 'ROBIN HOOD' last February, RICHARD CHALLONER THEATRE COMPANY returns to the KOLIBRI SZINHAZ with a new comedy drama about WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE.
It is 1594 and women are not allowed to appear on the stage so female roles are played by boys. Who was the first boy to play Juliet in Shakespeare's famous play 'Romeo and Juliet'?
Young Will Hughes runs away from home and joins the Lord Chamberlain's Men, a company of touring actors. William Shakespeare is in the company and takes him on as his apprentice. He agrees to train Will to be an actor. The company travels back to London to their playhouse called the Theatre.
Will Hughes has to fight the jealousy of the other apprentices when he gets his first role on the stage and he encounters the ghost that haunts the theatre. Eventually Shakespeare gives him the challenge of being the boy who first plays Juliet.
As rehearsals begin romantic intrigue off-stage matches the events of the play as the actor playing Romeo and the actor playing Tybalt are both in love with Anne who comes to the theatre………..
